Symmetry-Protected Topological Edge Modes and Emergent Partial Time-Reversal Symmetry Breaking in Open Quantum Many-Body Systems

چکیده
Symmetry-protected topological edge modes are one of the most remarkable phenomena in physics. Here, we formulate and quantitatively examine effect a quantum bath on these modes. Using density matrix renormalization group method, study ground state composite system spin-1 chain, where degrees freedom treated same footing. We focus dependence global/partial symmetries system-bath coupling features bath. It is shown that time-reversal symmetry(TRS) plays special role for an open system, emergent partial TRS breaking will result TRS-protected mode diffusing from into bath, thus make it useless computation.

Localized many-particle Majorana modes with vanishing time-reversal symmetry breaking in double quantum dots.
We introduce the concept of spinful many-particle Majorana modes with local odd operator products, thereby preserving their local statistics. We consider a superconductor-double-quantum-dot system where these modes can arise with negligible Zeeman splitting when Coulomb interactions are present. We find a reverse Mott-insulator transition, where the even- and odd-parity bands become degenerate....

متن کاملSymmetry Protected Topological phases of Quantum Matter
We describe recent progress in our understanding of the interplay between interactions, symmetry, and topology in states of quantum matter. We focus on a minimal generalization of the celebrated topological band insulators to interacting many particle systems, known as Symmetry Protected Topological (SPT) phases. In common with the topological band insulators these states have a bulk gap and no...
متن کاملQuantum anomalous Hall effect in time-reversal-symmetry breaking topological insulators.
The quantum anomalous Hall effect (QAHE), the last member of Hall family, was predicted to exhibit quantized Hall conductivity σ(yx) = e2/h without any external magnetic field. The QAHE shares a similar physical phenomenon with the integer quantum Hall effect (QHE), whereas its physical origin relies on the intrinsic topological inverted band structure and ferromagnetism. Since the QAHE does no...
متن کاملQuantum Transport Enhancement by Time-Reversal Symmetry Breaking
Quantum mechanics still provides new unexpected effects when considering the transport of energy and information. Models of continuous time quantum walks, which implicitly use time-reversal symmetric Hamiltonians, have been intensely used to investigate the effectiveness of transport. Here we show how breaking time-reversal symmetry of the unitary dynamics in this model can enable directional c...
